SCHOOL OF SPIRITUAL DIRECTION
A 2-YEAR CERTIFICATE PROGRAM FOR TRAINING IN SPIRITUAL DIRECTION
Transformation of the Heart offers a 2-year training program for those who are discerning a call to the ministry of Spiritual Direction. Learn how to tend to your own soul in order to become present to others who desire spiritual support. Students will gain insight and practical skills to compassionately companion others as they journey with God.
Cohorts will meet five times per training year (see schedule below). Reading, reflections, and reporting assignments will be part of the curriculum, along with teaching, discussion, spiritual practices, individual and group exercises, receiving and offering spiritual direction, and experienced modeling and support. During the training program, students will move from beginner to more confident practitioner, then to competent spiritual directors, ready to begin their own practice and ministry.
A unique aspect of training offered through Transformation of the Heart is the element of customization of the program in Year 2. Each participant will be able to make reading choices that fit their particular needs and interests within the general focus of the program.
Transformation of the Heart Training in Spiritual Direction program will meet or exceed the requirements of the Christian-led Spiritual Directors Association (CSDA): https://www.graftedlife.org/spiritual-direction/esda/training-minimums
Year 1 will offer extensive teaching in the methods, models, and practices of spiritual formation and awareness. Participants will learn and become familiar with the diversity of spiritual formation resources and will learn how to integrate their understanding into their direction practice.
Year 2 will revolve around the teachings of St. Ignatius of Loyola. These spiritual truths are key to developing a deeper relationship with God, learning to notice attachments and cues of resistance to spiritual growth. In addition, each participant will choose a focus of study during Year 2 based on their particular gifts, calling, and ministry interests/opportunities. This customizable portion of the program will allow the student to get specific training in an area of their choosing.

I have had the honor of being shaped by rich and diverse Christian influences. I am forever indebted to my Baptist roots for giving me a lifelong love for the inspired Word of God; the Vineyard teaching that has awakened me to a living, active God and the power of prayer; and a love for the deep historic roots of liturgical traditions. I love to walk with individuals as they seek a deeper relationship with God, becoming more like Jesus for the sake of others.
